Duties of the Camp Guard are numerous: assisting in conferral of degrees, acting as a Guard of Honor, ushering, providing security at various functions and passing the Box of Fraternal Assistance. Dr. Frank Eugene Gibson, 32° organized the Camp Guard in the Fall of 1910; he was an expert master having won many prizes competitive drills with similar units. Inspiration for creation of the Camp Guard was the Albert Pike Camp Guard of Little Rock, Arkansas which Dr. Gibson had observed earlier.
The Camp Guard of Washington, DC bodies initially consisted of 18 men, all 32° Masons. By the Fall of 1911, there were 30 members.
